Listen Orb is commercial software. Polar handles checkout and tax. There is no Listen Orb subscription and no Listen Orb speech backend. The license unlocks the Mac app after the trial.

Local processing is included and needs no API key. That payment is not OpenAI or xAI credit. Cloud transcription and optional AI polish use your own OpenAI or xAI API key. A ChatGPT plan is not an OpenAI API key. SuperGrok, grok.com, Cursor, or an X login is not an xAI API key. A Polar key is not an sk- or xai- key.

The regular price is $99, paid once for the Mac app. There is no recurring Listen Orb fee.
One license activates up to 3 Macs. Manage activations through the Polar customer portal.
The app includes Fn dictation, manual vocabulary, optional polish and selected-text Orb Commands. Try the current features in your own text fields before deciding.
No Listen Orb account is required. Local needs no API key. For cloud, your OpenAI or xAI API key is stored in macOS Keychain; API usage is billed separately by that provider.
Polar handles payment, tax and order receipts. Review the final amount and any offer eligibility at checkout.

The free trial is a chance to evaluate the app before purchase. For an order, refund or license-recovery question, contact hello@listenorb.com. Include your order reference and a short description; do not send an API key or license key.

Pay once through Polar
Open Polar checkout — $99 one time. Polar takes the $99 one-time payment and sends a receipt to the address you used there.
Copy the license key
Use Access purchase in the confirmation email, or open Manage License and enter the checkout email address. Polar sends a one-time sign-in code, so the original message is not required. Keep the key. The same one unlocks up to 3 Macs.
Paste it into Listen Orb
On first launch the app can collect it. Later, use License… in the menu bar extra, or right-click the orb and choose License…. Save. The key stays in Keychain on this Mac. macOS may ask for your Mac login password to unlock Keychain. Listen Orb never sees that password. The app then confirms that Polar accepted the license, or explains whether you should try another key or retry a temporary verification failure.
Or start the trial first
Without a license key, choose Start free trial during activation. The trial starts as soon as its activation is saved. Complete API key and permission setup to use Listen; practice is optional. The start date stays in Keychain on this Mac. Uninstalling or re-downloading does not restart it while the entitlement markers survive. Removing every local marker has limits in a local-only trial system. When it ends, the app asks you to buy or paste a key. An offline grace of a few days covers a licensed Mac that cannot reach Polar.

Your trial starts when you choose Start free trial and activation is saved. Practice is optional. Extensions run from that original start; they do not restart an expired trial. Orb Commands and copied recovery text do not add trial days. Existing trials keep their original entitlement.

The trial keeps a necessary word total locally on your Mac, independently of optional Dictation Stats, including when Stats are off or reset. This counter stores no audio, transcripts, destination identity or per-dictation history. It stops growing at the seven-day cap or after purchase.

No card is required for the Listen Orb trial. Provider API usage is billed separately.

If something fails

The key does not look valid. It usually starts with LISTENORB_, not sk- or xai-. An OpenAI or xAI key belongs in AI Provider…, not here.
Polar did not accept the key. Copy it again from Manage License. If this Mac is a fourth activation, deactivate one of the others in Polar or write hello@listenorb.com.
Receipt missing. Check spam, then Polar’s portal, then hello@listenorb.com.
